The Blue Mountains are renowned for breath-taking views and beautiful bushwalks, but what about when its too dark to see the spectacular scenery?

Katoomba’s main street is filled with cafes and restaurants that come alive at night, particlarly on the weekends. Cafe Zuppa has a vibrant atmosphere, with a reasonably priced menu, including a selection of vegetarian dishes. The Avalon, with great views and ecclectic furniture and artwork, is a slightly more upmarket option, but retaining a friendly and casual service.

There are a number of bars and pubs to choose from. Champagne Charlies can be found inside the iconic Carrington Hotel, offering the usual range of drinks plus a wide selection of cocktails such as the Femme Fatale and the Lady Carrington.

Station Bar, a newer venue already popular with the locals, offers a warm atmosphere complete with woodfire pizzas. Old City Bank Bar, reminiscent of an old English pub and the Carrington Sports Bar are other options.

    Champagne Charlie’s Cocktail Bar

    15-47 Katoomba St, Katoomba NSW
HOURS: Mon- Sun  11 am – 4.30 pm

Located under the glorious stain glass dome of the Carrington Hotel, Champagne Charlie’s is the only cocktail bar in Katoomba, offering traditional and contemporary cocktails with boutique beers and an extensive wine list to satisfy the discerning connoisseur.

Champagne Charlie was originally a nickname given to French Champagne merchant Charles Heidseick in the 1850s. Subsequently it has come to be used as a nickname for anyone who lives a Champagne lifestyle in a metropolis. Lord Carrington, the Governor of NSW adopted this name as he was notorious for drinking champagne every breakfast. The bar offers an all-day menu from 11am to 4pm, then serves classic cocktails until late. There is no better spot to enjoy a cocktail in the sun than on the Art Nouveau Piazza, or perhaps you’d prefer a laidback Devonshire Tea inside The Lounge.

Everything about this distillery was pleasant. The tasting room is set up beautifully with plenty of seating. The staff were super friendly and very knowledgable about the different types of gin that are distilled on site. The tasting boards provide 3 different gins to sample and each are explained and presented beautifully so you can drink them straight, or on the rocks with some premium tonic water. There are 7 different gins to sample so you’re sure to find a gin that appeals to your palette. Our only regret is that we didn’t go on a Friday or Saturday night as they have a wood fired pizza oven hummin’. We ended up taking home 2 different gin bottles. Thanks for a great afternoon.
